Has your child seen a Dentist yet?
The Chief Dental Officer for England is promoting early dental access and preventive care for young children aged 0-2 years, in line with a national campaign for a ‘Dental Check by One’ – a first dental visit by a child’s first birthday. This work is part of wider efforts to reduce the large number of children undergoing general anaesthesia for the removal of decayed teeth. Despite being preventable, the latest figures from Public Health England show that 141 children per day, some just a year old, are having decayed teeth removed in hospital.
As part of this work, a set of online resources for the wider Health and Social Care and Early Years workforce has been developed to support oral health promotion for children aged 0-2 years in non-dental settings. This includes posters (examples of 2 posters are attached as pdfs, which you may wish to display), leaflets and other resources (e.g. Apps, videos, guidance) for the public, patients, parents and carers.
